ANNUAL PRICE: 84 USD

Based in Sweden, OVPN is hands down one of the most secure VPN providers with astonishingly reliable and fast VPN service.

OVPN is a no logs VPN provider that owns the hardware used to run the VPN service. OVPN servers operate without outside storage devices. There are no hard drives, no USB flash drives, and no CDs that could otherwise log and store information, thereby, ensuring that no data can be accessed should physical tampering with OVPN servers occur (official raids, for example). Additionally, OVPN is setup in a way that prevents even temporary logs. This makes OVPN servers completely secure and OVPN is the only VPN provider that offers this level of security.

Additionally, OVPN operates their own public DNS servers that are using shared IP addresses by default. This setup increases anonymity as hundreds of people could be using the same IP address as the same time. DNSCrypt encrypts traffic running back and forth the DNS server taking privacy of OVPN users even further.

Could this get any better? Actually, it can! OVPN team went as far as encrypting their users’ email addresses in their database. The encryption key is generated daily and completely eliminates a possibility that any entity might gain access to their user base. They even bought an insurance that would cover legal fees should the government subpoena the provider. OVPN has never given any information about their customers to a third party and, probably, never will.

OVPN settings Now all this insane infrastructure security comes with a small drawback. OVPN cannot roll out hundreds of servers around the world as they need to first ensure the quality. As of now they are offering servers in 7 countries (USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden), some of which even support gigabit connections (1000 Mbit/s).

Not surprisingly, their servers offer an uninterrupted browsing experience and a top notch performance in terms of speed. Not even once within a month of testing did OVPN connection drop. There was no noticeable slowdown of the Internet connection either. Streaming, browsing and torrenting all performed great.

OVPN offers custom software for Windows & Mac OS that prevents DNS leaks and activates DNScrypt to encrypt DNS traffic. OVPN app has a built-in Kill Switch feature. Kill Switch actively monitors your connection to ensure no data leaks when the Internet in unstable.

Additionally, OVPN users can activate Multihop, Public IPv4 and Filtering add-ons. Multihop increases anonymity by rerouting traffic through multiple VPN servers simultaneously (real IP —> VPN 1—> VPN 2 —> destination). Multihop feature works with port forwarding enabled and IPv6. Port forwarding is another great feature that OVPN supports. You can open up to seven custom TCP or UDP ports. Both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are fully supported by default. But if your device doesn’t support IPv6, you should manually disable them to prevent issues with your VPN connection.

OVPN settings Public IPv4 is a dedicated IP address feature. It’s a perfect feature if you need to place your server or NAS behind VPN. You can also access your device outside of your local network since no ports are being blocked.

Filtering add-on works similar to Adblock, but faster as all filtering is performed by the server. Filtering works in all browsers, the add-on blocks ads, trackers (both on the web pages and within your email), phishing pages and malware.

Additionally, OVPN offers a Proxy service that can be simultaneously used with either of the above add-ons. OVPN Proxy does not keep logs, blocks cookies and makes additional privacy changers to HTTP headers.

The only real downside to OVPN is that they only offer desktop apps. Mobile users should download an open-source OpenVPN app and manually install server profiles before they can use OVPN. The provide can, however, supply a Vilfo router with OVPN pre-installed, thus, automatically securing all devices at home.

All in all, OVPN is an amazingly secure VPN provider with strategically placed server locations and excellent VPN performance.
